Sun Catchers

Butterfly.

This was my first complete piece. This is from a simple five-piece pattern supplied by a local stained glass store that also offers courses.

Red ribbon.

Although I will readily take inspiration from other designs, my goal is to produce fully original stained glass pieces. This is a simple ribbon design. I had intended to build the piece within a 12cm brass ring, but later decided to dispense with the ring.

Red trillium.

For this piece, I started with a photo of a red trillium. After cropping and sizing the photo appropriately, I printed out the photo and marked out the major edges using a black marker to produce the pattern.

Cats.

In the above sun catcher, some pictures of cats are sandwiched by pieces of transparent glass before being placed into the pattern. This was intended as a Christmas gift to a friend who loves her two cats.

Heart.

My wife wasn't as impressed as I expected when she first opened her Christmas present. But when we hung it on a sunny window, the heart design became clear, and she then loved her present. The tricky part of the design was the sharp inside corner at the top of the heart. I could have made the corner sharper by putting a seam through the heart. But I didn't want this sun catcher to have a "broken" heart.
