Introduction
At the eastern edge of the city of Toronto, you can find one of the largest urban wilderness parks in North America. Unlike the other major rivers of Toronto, such as the Don and Humber, much of the lower Rouge River has resisted significant development along its banks.
The above map shows the north-east corner of Scarborough in 1860. The thick line meandering through the map is the Rouge River. The thin line above and to the right of the Rouge River is the Little Rouge Creek. Move the cursor over the map to see the locations of some present day features.
