Queen & Church
The area to the east of Yonge Street is much poorer than the area to the west. Church Street, north of Queen, is the place to find pawn shops. This is also the area to shop for cameras. The largest photography store is Henry's, where I've been shopping for the past 30 years.
Construction of the church at Church and Queen began in 1870. The first service in this "Cathedral of Methodism" was held here on September 16, 1874. The World Ecumenical Methodist Conference meetings in 1911 and the first General Council of the United Church in 1925 occurred here. The church was rebuilt after a major fire in 1928.
