The Beaches
The Beaches, named for the sand beaches along the lake, is one of the more popular neighborhoods for Toronto's Yuppie class. Queen Street East, lined with trendy and colorful shops and restaurants, is a feast for the eyes. Traffic through the area can often be slow. And so, like so many other parts of the city, it's best to see the area on foot.
I picked a bright sunny day in the middle of winter to stroll along Queen Street East and take pictures of the area. Although most pictures were taken in the middle of the day, the low sun offered some wonderful lighting.
Customers of the Happy Sailor, a popular ice cream shop in the Beaches, were up in arms when a large American ice cream chain opened a shop just steps away. But there are so many ice cream eaters, both residents and visitors, crawling throught the area in the summer to support both stores.
