University & College
University Avenue, at College Street, is home to a number of hospitals and medical research centers. Among the medical institutions are the Toronto General Hospital, the Hospital for Sick Children, Princess Margaret Hospital, and Mount Sinai Hospital.
On the north-east corner is the poignant Ontario Fire Fighter Memorial. Dedicated in 2005, the walls list the names of fire fighters who lost their lives in the course of their duty.
Unlike the fire fighters, there's no memorial for Al. He's the homeless man who froze to death while sleeping on a heating grate near this spot, within sight of the Ontario provincial legislature.
