Big Chute Marine Railway
There are several unusual locks along the Trent-Severn Waterway, and
this is one of them.
This huge lock glides along rails carrying boats almost 18m up or down along
the Severn River.
Originally, conventional locks were planned for the Big Chute, but work was
stopped as the costs grew.
A marine railway was built as a temporary measure in 1917.
And in 1977, this much bigger structure was built.
